CLAIRE HOPKINS RELEASES NEW COUNTRY-POP SINGLE WITH A POWERFUL MESSAGE
Over the past few years, a lot of South Africans have made the brave decision to seek refuge abroad.
Although friends and family almost always understand and support this choice, many hearts are broken in the process, and this is exactly what Claire Hopkins’s latest single is about.
“Many of my nearest and dearest friends as well as family have emigrated from South Africa to explore opportunities abroad. I wrote this song to both grieve the losses of my friends and family, but to also offer support and pay tribute to those who have made the difficult decision to emigrate,” she explains.
GO GETTEM GIRL is a heartfelt country-pop song with a positive twist, that follows the journey of a girl emigrating overseas and reflects on the impact that it has on family and friends left behind. The artist believes that it will appeal to a broad audience.
She adds: “Any change or transition in life, whether positive or negative, is met with its pros and cons; not only for the person going through it, but also for those close to them. I miss my friends and family dearly.”
A music video about a girl deciding to leave the country and the build-up towards the final goodbye will be available soon, but she doesn’t want to reveal too many details about it at this stage.
The young artist’s latest offering is her second original release and fourth single overall – it follows in the footsteps of Keeper, released at the end of 2021, which got playlisted and charted on several major radio stations.
About the success of her first single, she says: “It was well received by listeners, and I am so flattered by the way in which audiences took to it. Being my first original single, I did not have any expectations and I was stunned by the progress and growth it made on the charts.”
Claire was born in Durban and moved to Johannesburg with her family when she was four. Growing up, she was passionate about music and performance and joined a vocal studio when she was in high school. She recorded her first cover, Adele’s Someone Like You, at the age of seventeen.
The singer-songwriter holds an undergraduate degree in Education, two honours degrees (Educational Psychology and Remedial Therapy), and a master’s degree (Educational Psychology).
She is currently working as a psychologist in Cape Town, where she is still settling in, but is adamant to continue pursuing her dream of becoming a well-known musician in the industry.
For Claire, her love for music is closely linked to her passion and career. “As a psychologist, I work with people’s stories, feelings, emotions and life experiences daily. In a similar way, music creates a platform for people to express themselves and tell their stories.”
