The lovebirds, from Whitehaven, Cumbria, snuck off and giggled their way through their photo session after the main photos were out of the way and guests were seated.

Plans for the saucy sex act simulation snap were kept secret until the couple of four years shared the picture on social media – but the stunt backfired when they were slated online.

Gareth, a bus driver, said: “The photo was both of our ideas. We wanted to do something a bit different.

“Nobody knew about it except the photographer. He found it hilarious when we told him what we wanted before the big day – he loved it.

The photo was eventually removed from Facebook after a number of negative comments
