Matric is a milestone year, and in 2025, over 700,000 learners across South Africa have geared up for their final year of school. For the Class of 2025, this is a time to create lasting memories, embrace new beginnings and shape futures.

Matric dances, or farewells, are a significant tradition for South African learners, marking the culmination of their high school journey. However, many schools and learners face challenges that hinder their ability to host or participate in these celebrations. Some schools lack the resources to organise a dance, while learners are often required to shoulder substantial costs for outfits, transportation, and event fees – which creates disparities in participation.
To help bridge this gap, Ackermans, South Africa’s leading value retailer, has launched the CUBE Matric Challenge, an initiative designed to support schools and learners in creating an unforgettable matric dance experience. This competition offers a grand prize of R250,000 to one deserving school to create a memorable matric dance experience. Furthermore, one lucky learner will walk away with R50,000. Whether they use it to create their ultimate matric dance experience or invest in their future is entirely up to them.
Understanding the challenges faced by many South African schools and learners, Ackermans hopes the CUBE Matric Challenge will promote inclusivity and celebration within communities. The competition is open to all matric learners nationwide and runs until 7 April 2025.
