Comedian David Kau has signed a deal with a Los Angeles-based production and distribution company for his upcoming movie Sekwankwetla, the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) said on Tuesday..
The deal was concluded on Tuesday with the founders of Archstone Companies, Scott Martin and Michael Slifkin, the foundation said in a statement.
Sekwankwetla tells a story of a South African township superhero whose super powers are that he can fly, but only 10cm high.
“We plan to shoot the film on location in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and have already started negotiations with the newly established KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission representatives who are also attending the festival to market the province as a best location,” Kau said.
The film would be directed by Teboho Mahlatsi, best known for producing and directing the television series YizoYizo.
Locally produced cop comedy Blitz Patrollie which starred Kau and fellow comedian Joey Rasdien was screened at the Cannes film festival in 2013.
