Red Bull is excited to announce the winners of the highly anticipated, Red Bull Quicksand – the toughest 1-mile race – that took place at New Beach in Durban on Saturday, 15 July. Over 500 athletes braved the scorching heat and participated in this unique obstacle course, showcasing their strength and determination.
The Red Bull Quicksand race attracted participants from all over KwaZulu- Natal who came prepared and tested their fitness levels. The atmosphere was electrifying with music, and entertainment from extreme trial biker, Brian Capper as well as fitness influencer, Nomvula Khuzwayo who facilitated the warm-up sessions.

Women’s category:
1st Place: Dayna Deeble
2nd Place: Celine Cloete
3rd Place: Trish Eksteen
Men’s category:
1st Place: Joshua Steytler
2nd Place: Nkosiyazi Sithole
3rd Place: Bongani Hlongwane
The 2023 Red Bull Quicksand first-place winners took home the coveted and unique trophy as well as recognition of being crowned the King and Queen of the castle. 17-year-old, Dayna and 19-year-old, Joshua showcased great skill and strategy as they conquered running on sand beating their other competitors.
“I am super happy to have won this year’s Red Bull Quicksand race. I just came here to participate because my brother did it last year. It was a fun and great experience. My father is also a marathon runner, I guess being an athlete is in the genes,” said Dayna Deeble, the women’s champion.
The new men’s champion Joshua Steytler is thrilled to be this year’s winner. He said, “The competition this year was tough, especially with the defending champion making a strong comeback. However, it pushed me to my limits and brought out the best in me. I truly enjoyed the unique and challenging obstacle course because it was not a flat terrain. It tested my skills and strategy.”
