Global superstar Dean Lewis continues to preview his upcoming third album with the release of his new single, ‘Trust Me Mate’. The song arrives while ‘In A Perfect World’, his collaboration with the incomparable 4 x Grammy® Award-Nominated artist Julia Michaels, continues to surpass 22 million global streams and follows Dean’s debut tour of Asia last month.
A vital and visceral hand on the shoulder, ‘Trust Me Mate’ sees Dean drawing upon memories of his loved ones who have supported him through times of hardship, struggle, and self-doubt. Utilising the words of wisdom and support received from his nearest and dearest in these moments, the result is one of comfort; a guiding hand on the shoulder that is always needed, but rarely received.
‘Trust Me Mate’ arrives as the second taste of Dean’s forthcoming album and sees him again joining forces with prolific songwriter Jon Hume, who previously worked with Dean on hit singles such as ‘Be Alright’, ‘Hurtless’, and ‘How Do I Say Goodbye?’ amongst others. Joining Jon as co-producer, the pair wrote and recorded the song across Los Angeles and Nashville, pairing their talents to craft a track that is equally powerful and emotionally devastating.
Recalling the composition of the song, Dean Lewis admits that it was a powerful, albeit taxing experience; “Jon and I wrote ‘Be Alright’ and ‘How Do I Say Goodbye’ together, so this was the first time since then that we were in the studio together to write a song. We were in Los Angeles, and it was probably the most stressful song we’ve ever had to write. It took us about five days to write it, there were so many choruses and verses and we just spent a lot of time perfecting it. But we’re both really proud of it, because similar to our other songs, it really means something to the both of us, and we think it will really resonate with others who are going through a hard time.”
Alongside the release of the single, Dean has also shared the official video for ‘Trust Me Mate’. Directed by Luke Shaw and Landon Juern (David Kushner) of Altar8 Studio, the video was filmed across Los Angeles in two days as it contextualises the song’s underlying message of providing a helping hand and personifies Dean as the literal notion of being unable to help himself.
As Director’s Luke and Landon explain, the accompanying video is a visceral contextualisation of Dean’s lyrics, “In this film, we show the timeline that takes someone from being addicted to rock bottom. People will try everything they can to help, but ultimately they won’t be able to save you until you decide to save yourself. While working with Dean, it felt as though we’ve known him our whole lives. He has an incredibly genuine personality and immense dedication to his craft.”
‘Trust Me Mate’ is the latest entry in Dean Lewis’ ever-expanding discography, which has accrued over 10 billion global streams, and 5.2 million album and EP sales. Dean’s 2022 smash hit ‘How Do I Say Goodbye’ has become his third single following ‘Be Alright’ and ‘Waves’ to reach over one billion streams, and boasts 2x Platinum accreditation in Australia, Silver in the UK, and Gold in the US and New Zealand. His first taste from his third album, the Julia Michaels collaboration ‘In A Perfect World’ as first mentioned has surpassed 20 million global streams since its release in June.
Having spent the majority of 2023 touring the globe for The Future Is Bright World Tour, including shows in New Zealand, his two memorable sold out shows at Margaret Court Arena (Melbourne), and Hordern Pavilion (Sydney), sold out shows throughout Europe, plus his first headline appearances in Asia, Dean is now in the midst of the latest leg of the tour, which sees him performing across the US until November. Dean has also performed at major festivals, including Lollapalooza Stockholm (including an onstage appearance with Kygo), Rock Werchter Belgium, and Lollapalooza Paris. By the end of 2023, Dean will have performed at over 100 shows + festivals.
