The 34 year-old Empangeni born star’s career has been marred with injuries and the club’s medical department recommended that he has to end his career.

Sangweni’s last match for Pirates was on November 29, 2015 against Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel in the CAF Confederation Cup final in Tunisia.

“I’ve called this conference to announce the pre-mature retirement of Siyabonga Sangweni,” Khosa said during a press conference at Rand Stadium.

“Sangweni has been a stalwart for this Club and has been a great leader. He has shown great commitment.

“Siyabonga has been plagued by injury and after consultation, the medics have confirmed that he has to end his career early,” Khoza adds.
