A Egypt Air plane with 81 passengers and crew has been hijacked and landed at the Larnaca airport in Cyprus, Cyprus state television RIK reported this morning.
The flight was a local flight from Burj El Arab airport in the northern Egyptian city of Alexandria to the capital Cairo, Ihab Raslan, spokesman for the Egyptian ministry of civil aviation, tells newsmen.
The Cypriot authorities haven’t received any requests from the hijackers of the Airbus 320, RIK added.
According to Egypt Air, at least one man is said to be involved in the hijacking and a bomb is also said to be involved.
TV images showed passengers leave the aircraft and get onto airport buses. In a tweeted update, EgyptAir says those still on board are the crew and four foreign nationals.
According to Reuters quoting Egypt’s state news agency, MENA, named the hijacker as an Egyptian national called Ibrahim Samaha.
