There’s far more to experiencing the multi-faceted and intricate beauty of the Elgin Valley than simply taking in the kaleidoscope of fascinating fynbos and magnificent vineyards or sipping some of the finest wines that the country has to offer.

The Wildekrans Wine Estate with its Endless Vineyards Boutique Lodge allows one to truly drink in the beautiful landscape while experiencing first-hand the richness that mother nature has to offer in the shadow of the magnificent Overberg.

What started out as a mixed farming operation has evolved into a unique combination of old and new, vintage and contemporary, antique and modern.

It’s most obvious asset is its location along one of the premier tourist routes in the Western Cape. Just an hour from Cape Town’s International Airport, it is ideally situated between the leafy scenery of Botriver and the sunny beaches of Hermanus.

The 1000-hectare farm itself – better known as the Wildekrans Boutique Wine Estate – is tucked away in the beautiful Bot River Valley and provides the ultimate escape from the rat race for family getaways, more formal functions and corporate consultations. There’s an on- site conference room, a wedding chapel, an antique boardroom and more.

Nine luxury old Dutch-style self-catering cottages, which started their lives as farm worker’s houses, have been refurbished and embellished to provide a homely country escape with attention to every detail. Each of the cottages that makes up the Endless Vineyards Boutique Lodge has a beautiful patio. Coffee in hand, guests can take in the crispness of the vineyards and nearby river in the early morning or enjoy the golden glow of a country sunset over a glass of wine in the late afternoon.

The estate is premised on the fact that great wines begin in the very vineyards that provide this relaxing setting. However, for those who aren’t lucky enough to stay on the farm and soak up the beauty, there’s still the Tasting Room.

Situated in the original cellar building built in 1936 which has been restored to its former glory, this is the place for both guests and passers-by to take time out to sample and buy the many award winning wines produced on the estate.

For those feeling a little peckish at the tasting room, there’s a casual menu consisting of pizzas, burgers, Steaks and Platters. The tasting Room is also open on a Friday evening and offers, over and above the A la Carte menu, a chalked up specials board consisting of a steak special and other seasonal options.

For foodies wanting to pair exquisite wines with more sophisticated fare, there’s the main restaurant at Wildekrans. Boasting country gourmet cooking at its best and with as much ingredients as possible sourced locally and sustainably from the Overberg, this menu features items such as Pearl Onion and Rabbit Soup, Slow Roasted Pork Belly to Beef Fillet and Braised Oxtail all of which can be finished off with decadent dessert. The menu changes according to the produce available
