The Facebook cofounder and CEO revealed in a post on the social network Friday night that he has decided to challenge himself to read a new book every other week this year, “with an emphasis on learning about different cultures, beliefs, histories and technologies.”
As part of that effort, Zuckerberg created a dedicated page called “A Year of Books,” which users can check to see what Zuckerberg is reading, and discuss those books in the comments.
The virtual book club, to use the term loosely, is just the latest example of Zuckerberg actively engaging and encouraging Facebook’s community. The CEO has done multiple Q&As in recent months with users, and turned to his followers on Facebook for suggestions about what his New Year’s resolution should be this year.
In previous years, Zuckerberg has challenged himself to meet a new person outside Facebook each day, eat only vegetables or meat he has killed himself (yes, really) and learn to speak Mandarin. He proved beyond a doubt that he accomplished the last of those at a public event in October.
