If you’re looking for something “off-the-grid” to do next weekend, how does a three-day weekend adventure crammed with more than 100 events sound? With just days to go until the annual Magalies Rocks the Cradle Festival (MRtC) kicks off on Friday, the little town of Magaliesburg is dusting off the red carpet to welcome visitors to its magnificent piece of the planet.
If the majestic backdrop of mountains, valleys, rivers and woodland don’t woo you from 24 : 25 : 26 August 2018, then the town’s 2.5 billion year history or trademark warm hospitality will!
“It’s all systems go from our end,” says Hannelie Hartman, Chairperson of the Magalies Business Forum. “We’ve planned for a long time and now we’re putting the finishing touches for what promises to be another exciting festival! It’s hard to explain the special atmosphere in the air.
Everyone in our town is so excited and we can’t wait to treat our guests and show them how special Magalies really is!”
Now in its third year running, the MRtC Festival showcases what Magalies and surrounds has to offer as part of the internationally acclaimed Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site and Magaliesberg Biosphere. With more than 100 events and activities at 50 different venues, visitors will be spoilt for choice.
There’s something for every member of the family – delicious home-cooked meals and decadent delights, markets to browse through, adrenaline sports, art exhibitions and local crafts, live music, cultural performances, talks and workshops, and loads of entertainment for the little ones.
Recover from the rat race by reconnecting with nature, enjoy a romantic break amidst the mountains or fall in love with yourself again.
The children will love the Wildrides Funfair, a knight’s tournament and a daily puppet show. The elephant interaction, visits to the alpaca farm and trips to the ice cream factory are always firm favourites as well as activities hosted by Happy Acres – designed to keep young ones intrigued and fascinated!
Music always sounds better with loved ones but music with loved ones amidst the mountains is a whole other experience! Chill with a variety of live performances including Afro-Jazz, a community festival and a gospel concert. There are also a variety of live performances throughout the weekend at the markets, at the wine-tasting event and at the local breweries.
If you’ve ever wanted to unleash your inner artist, join one of two workshops at Valley Lodge on Saturday and Sunday. There are also exhibitions by Pretoria’s Bruinette Brecher and a range of esoteric art by Geraldine Talbot. Exhibitions at the Arts Co-op and Heksies Hide-away must also not be missed.
Foodies are particularly in for a treat with an array of local food and treats, wine-tastings and an array of fresh produce and markets. You could learn the secret to Maglies’ famous home-made pies (at a hands-on workshop, and make a few yourself to take home with you!)
With so much more on offer, a lifetime of memories awaits you at the Magalies Rocks the Cradle Festival – and it’s just an hour’s drive from Johanneburg, Pretoria and Rustenburg! Entry to many of the events is free while tickets for others can be purchased online at www.magaliesrocksthecradle.co.za .
