Idol SA judge Gareth Cliff bid the show a goodbye after 11 seasons as a judge on the popular show.
The radio star confirmed the news on his Facebook page on early hour of today.
“It’s time! After eleven seasons of Idols‚ it’s time for me to say goodbye. What better way to bring this chapter to a close than a trip to New York and meeting American Idols judge Harry Connick Jr and being on his post-Idols show — ’Harry‚’” Gareth wrote.
Gareth’s years with Idols never went without hiccups especially after the radio personality was embroiled in controversy regarding a race debate around estate agent, Penny Sparrow. Responding to questions on whether to criminalize racist posts on social media, Gareth Cliff said: “People really don’t understand free speech at all.”
Gareth was fired from the show but he took M-Net to court over the decision and was reinstated‚ with M-Net ordered to pay costs.
Gareth not revealing his plans for the future tells his fans to watch the space.
