Following months of renovations, Granada Square unveiled their stunning new look and feel on Friday, August 30th.

Having been a landmark in uMhlanga for the past 30 years, Granada Square is both a well-known and well-loved community shopping centre, attracting holidaymakers and locals alike.

Undertaken in a phased approach, the initial work began in August 2018 and focused on general maintenance elements, such as replacing the waterproofing for both office and retail spaces, repainting, and giving the centre a general facelift and more appealing exterior.

The second phase of the upgrade, saw a complete reconfiguration of the centre court area, which has been redesigned to create to more modern, piazza feel.

The entire square was re-tiled, with accent feature areas, and the lower level retail area façade was enhanced with roof canopies, allowing restaurant tenants to spill out into the courtyard area and giving shoppers a semi weatherproof, covered walkway.

A mixture of wood and steel finishes have softened the overall aesthetics, creating seamless synergies, and modernising the overall look of the building.

In her address to the invited guests and tenants, Emira Property Fund COO, Ulana van Biljon, commented that, “one of our key focus areas as Emira Property Group is to ensure that our buildings remain relevant, and this led us to identify Granada Square as one of the buildings that required a refurb.

What we wanted, was to create a piazza area that exuded life and energy, and the design of the new tiled square has certainly achieved that, with a design that draws you into the Centre.” Van Biljon also thanked the tenants for their patience, cooperation and commitment during the construction process, which she understands was not easy.

If you haven’t visited Granada Square yet, we suggest that you head down and see for yourselves, all that this newly refurbished Centre brings to the area.
