Guidelines For International Mother Earth Day

Mother Earth Day is observed in many countries around the World on April 22nd – as many folks believe, and rightly so, that mother earth or Earth Mother is a personification of nature that focuses on the life-giving and nurturing aspects of nature by embodying it, in the form of the mother.

The focus on saving our earth and its environment has become increasingly important, and the key focus of many communities around the globe, and rightly so, as our well-being exclusively depends on this planet, and therefore it is our responsibility to take care of it.

Admittedly, there are some environmental concerns “out there” ranging from waste to pollution. So, for folks who would like to make even a small change for the better for our environment, it starts when you go shopping. Here are some tips / tricks / guidelines that are so easy to implement and become habit when you go shopping!

  • Use long-lasting light bulbs. Energy efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so remember when you leave the room flip off the light switch! The friendly staff at Light Co, situated in Springfield Retail Centre, will be on hand to advise the best products and save you money at the same time!
  • Conserve water. We all need to cut down on water wastage, and On Tap, situated at Park Boulevard Shopping Centre, can advise you on how you can play your part here, with their range of water-saving, low flow taps.
  • If you have just bought some wine from Norman Goodfellows, who are based at Granada Square, and you are wondering what to do with the empty wine bottles, why not recycle & reuse them and turn them into creative household objects, being that of art – from wind chimes and fancy vases, to lamp holders or even funky table legs. The options are endless.

Other titbits to consider, and to keep in the “back of your mind” on your bit towards looking after Mother Earth, is to find ways to either reduce, reuse, or recycle; volunteer for clean-ups or fundraising for tinned items within your community (the Centre’s mentioned above do support various green drives throughout the year); shop for sustainable items; learn how to make smart seafood choices or buy a plant or a young tree as this is what provides us with oxygen.

You will find that it gets to be quite easy to make the right choices. And why not pay the information forward to your circle of friends and family by helping them also understand the importance and the extreme value of our natural resources.

To end with a quote by Aristotle – “In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous.”
