A media briefing forum about the devastating impact of the Covid pandemic on Commonwealth countries’ finances is being held this Thursday.
The briefing forum with speakers including Commonwealth Secretary General the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland (pictured), is in association with the London Press Club.
Others speaking will include E.Paul Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Immigration of Antigua & Barbuda; and Travis Mitchell, Head of Economic Policy and Small States for the Commonwealth Secretariat.
The briefing forum on “How to finance development in the post-covid world?” will be moderated by Anne McElvoy, Senior Editor of The Economist.
It will take place between 11.30am and 12.45pm BST on Thursday (24 June).
In a pre-event background note, the Commonwealth Secretariat say:
WHAT: Why focusing on vulnerability instead of GDP makes better sense when financing development in the post-covid world
WHY: In the past 18 months, we have seen the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbate the suffering of already vulnerable countries in the Commonwealth. Days ago, the G7 delivered an agenda for global action to build back better from the pandemic, building momentum towards the G20 summit later this year. The Commonwealth Universal Vulnerability Index identifies how we can better finance solutions in the post-covid world, offering a basis for global consensus that accounts for the multifaceted nature of vulnerability and resilience.
WHERE: Online event hosted by Blue Jeans.
