JAN RHAAP SHARES HUNTING TRIP SECRETS IN NEW SINGLE

Jan Rhaap, with his raspy voice and captivating lyrics, has been entertaining local fans for more than a decade and still has many exciting plans and dreams for the future.

The release of his latest single, JAGVAT, once again shows why his music is so popular.

It can be described as an upbeat country-pop song that contains elements of “boeremusiek” and was produced by Coolerbox Studios’ Tertius Human.

“Over the years, we have hosted many hunting trips on our farm. A group of hunters usually consists of the same typical characters, they only have different names. What happens on a hunting trip, usually stays between the guys, but this song reveals what happens during a typical weekend in the bush. Come to think of it, the song was actually written for women,” he explains about the latest release from his own pen.

Vonk Musiek and Coolerbox produced the music video, filmed at Mbizi Game Lodge just outside Bela-Bela, that complements the humoristic nature of the song. “The video tells the story of three hunters on a hunting trip and how they differ from one another. The video provides the ladies with some insight on what happens on a typical boy’s weekend in the bush,” he shares. “Instead of actors, we used real hunters, and the video will definitely make you smile.”

JAGVAT follows hot on the heels of Jan ek kan nie dans nie, which has already been watched more than a million times on YouTube.

Both singles follow in the successful footsteps of previous releases like Huisie in die Bos, which he co-wrote with Juan Boucher and whose video has already garnered more than 4.6 million views on YouTube, as well as Ramskilpad that not only topped several radio charts, but has also been viewed by more than 1.5 million people online.

JAGVAT is also the titular track of this talented singer’s new EP, which boasts six original tracks, created in true Jan Rhaap fashion to complement his signature country-pop-rock style. It was produced by Tertius Human and inspired by the people and things that he loves.

Jan Rhaap (38), a.k.a. Werner Burger, currently lives in the Northern Cape. When he is not on stage, he shares a farm with his father and brother just outside of Niekerkshoop; A small town between Griekwastad and Prieska.

He comes from a very musical family and has had several career highlights over the years, including two Ghoema nominations for Newcomer of the Year (2015) and Best Alternative Album of the Year (2017). Just before lockdown, he also had the opportunity of performing with other celebrities on the 2020 Bok Radio Boat Cruise.

The artist, who enjoys spending time with his family and is expecting a baby girl with his wife in December, is currently working on new music and trying to fit in as much shows as possible.

Jan enjoys singing about culture and tradition and believes that JAGVAT will appeal to audiences of all ages.

“Hunting is a big part of our culture and just like some people prefer to go the beach in summertime, others enjoy hunting in winter. Hunting is not only about the kill, but also about the outing and is something that all South Africans can relate to,” he concludes.
