After a series of high-profile singles and releases, including the hits Mortal Man, ‘Til I Found You, and Postcards, Jeremy Loops has announced Souvenirs, his new EP. The unstoppable Cape Town native, whose amassed more than 180 million streams and continues to explode his profile domestically and abroad says the EP, out on all major streaming and music platforms on Friday 8 October 2021, was born out of necessity.

‘Going into 2020, I had it all figured out. A new album of songs I crafted meticulously was going to drop, along with a massive SA Tour, which was then going to be followed by our biggest World Tour yet. But then the world shut down.’ He adds, ‘so in that lockdown stasis and melancholy, I asked myself if I could write any kind of songs, even ones that wouldn’t traditionally make an album, and if I could collaborate with anybody – like dream collaborations – who would that be? And so, from that “freedom” due to the world’s restriction, funny enough, Souvenirs came to be.’

Speaking about the title, Jeremy Loops says Souvenirs is a catch all term for the collection of memories and experiences and songs he’s had while writing this EP. ‘Some people collect trinkets as souvenirs, but they’re ultimately just capsules, physical manifestations of memories and an important time or interesting experience. These songs are that for me.  Mirror-like, but also a seminal and special time for me as a songwriter.

The beautiful artwork, illustrated by Elio Moavero, features various illustrations of the life you notice when you slow down, as well as the things you miss when you’re restricted, and so transcending the idea of souvenirs being some kitsch stuff you picked up along on the way.

In partnership with Universal Music Group South Africa, Decca Records, and Polydor Records, Souvenirs is out on Friday 8 October on all major music platforms.
