Joshua na die Reën has always approached each project he takes on in a very unique and authentic way. His latest Christmas single and music video are no exception and promises to ignite a spark of light and hope in the hearts of everyone who hears it during the festive season.
DAAR IS LIG is a special collaboration with Laerskool Thabazimbi’s choir and was masterfully recorded in Afrikaans, English, and Tswana, by producer Gideon Botes, to ensure an extraordinary final product.
The track, written specifically for this recording, revolves around the arrival of Light and the peace it brings.
“A few years ago, I collaborated with Laerskool Thabazimbi on ‘Lig op die Horison’, and it was such a special experience that we agreed to do it again in the future. So, this song was written specifically for the collaboration, and we wanted it to have a Christmas theme,” he shares about the origin of the single. “There’s a typical nostalgic element to the lyrics, which speak about families coming together, witnessing the arrival of Light, celebrating and experiencing the emotion of it.”
What makes DAAR IS LIG even more special is that it doesn’t sound like a typical Christmas carol and can have special meaning at any time of the year.
Of course, a special song like this deserves an outstanding music video, and the singer is thrilled to be able to share it with fans for the first time on Christmas Day.
Although he doesn’t want to reveal too much, he shares that the video revolves around a group of children presenting their dreams (drawn on paper) to their teacher (played by himself), who does his best to turn each one into a reality.
“The idea was born out of conversations I had with my brother and the producer, Jean de Villiers, and Miss Elmarie. We shot most of the scenes in the dark so that we could play with light as the main element,” he explains.
According to the musician, the video was filmed in various locations in Thabazimbi, including Marataba Safari Lodge, and they are very proud of the outcome.
