Key Trio miss Tottenham training on eve of Barcelona clash as Mauricio Pochettino puts stars to work

Tottenham were without the key trio of Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele during training ahead of their Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Jan Vertonghen

Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who welcomed back Hugo Lloris to training, host the European giants at Wembley on Wednesday looking to avoid a second consecutive defeat in the competition – having lost 2-1 to Inter Milan last time out at San Siro.

And on Tuesday morning, Tottenham were hard at work to try and put things right at their training base in Enfield but have been hit with injury problems ahead of the European clash.

Vertonghen was absent from the training session due to the hamstring injury he sustained at half-time during Saturday’s victory at Huddersfield.

Dembele – who was also substituted at half-time on the weekend after picking up a knock – and Eriksen (minor abdominal injury) also sat on the sidelines on Tuesday along with the already injured Dele Alli.

Pochettino left with no choice than to work with the remaining squad and had to call up Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Juan Foyth for the intense session even though they can’t feature on Wednesday as they are not part of the Champions League squad.

Meanwhile, Serge Aurier was doing some work on his own at the training base on the eve of the clash with the Catalan giants.

Despite being without some key members of the squad, Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier and Co appeared in high spirits as they put the final touches to their preparations.

And they were given a huge boost with captain and No 1 goalkeeper Lloris returning to his duties on Tuesday morning.

Although Lloris, who appeared a huge doubt for the Barcelona game with a thigh injury, was seen walking out to the session alongside his fellow goalkeepers.
