KZN FILM COMMISSION IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE NCE THE SELECTION OF NELSON MANDELA FAVOURITE AFRICAN FOLKTALES – NINE LAURELS ACROSS THE GLOBE
The KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission is pleased to announce the selection of the 2D animated TV series Nelson Mandela Favourite African Folktales, to film festivals across the globe such as India, Canada, United States, China, United Kingdom, France, Portugal and of course in many African Countries.
The series is an adaptation of the book titled Nelson Mandela’s Favourite African Folktales. A compilation of Nelson Mandela’s favourite African folktales that were told to him by elders in the village about the history and folklore of the African continent when he was growing up. It is an anthology of old and new African tales that teach children moral lessons and to learn about ancient African cultures.
The 5-part TV series has been well received at various film festivals, to date the series has been honoured with 9 Laurels, 5 for Fesito Goes to Market, 4for Snake Chief, 1 each for Sultan’s Daughter and Cloud Princess. The short film the Snake Chief is in the top 10 final short films in the Manchester Lift-off Online Film Festival, being number 1 of the 10 for MOST audience votes.
Snake Chief is in the semi-finals of the Oklahoma Black Film Festival 2022. Fesito Goes to Market has received two Laurels with officials’ selections from The Black Panther International Short Film Festival 2022 and the Crown Point International Film Festival 2022. The Sultan’s Daughter has received one Laurel with an official selection from The White Unicorn International Film Festival 2022. The team is still waiting to hear from the 2022 International World Film Awards where the film is placed in the 102 best projects chosen for these awards.
Speaking about the astonishing TV series, the Executive producer Ms Claudia Noble said, “This recognition of our work has made all the challenges we have faced over the last 3 years disappear and provided us with the motivation to continue our struggle in the film industry.” Ms Noble thanked the KZN Film Commission for the endless support and contributions towards the success of this project.
