Adorned Beyond caught up with Lebo Khau a female South African founder of La’Khau creations (which stands for her name Lebohang Abigail Khau), who is a remarkably gifted and skilled avant-garde ethnic contemporary jewellery maker, with a store nestled in the heart of down town Johannesburg.
We wanted to know more about what drives her, and what inspires her to create such beauty every day and take that gift to others.
Fashion designer at heart Lebo, born bread and buttered in Katlehong is a creative mind of note and a woman skilled beyond bounds. She started designing at a very young age and such is life that at some point she found herself not following her passion in design, but landed in other activities which included amongst others, presenting a sought after youth show which aired in the early/late 90’s called Jam Alley.
We are glad she is back into designing because excellence shows up with every piece she puts together, and her Client base has grown from Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Durban, Eastern Cape all the way to the UK. Patrons get to choose from an array of inimitable handcrafted designs to suit their ensembles.
The product range has expanded from wooden beads to African print material accessories, to buttons neck pieces, to bags and now they are venturing into clothing.
From raw talent, with no educational background to having the first La’Khau Creations outlet launch at 1Fox Street Newtown Johannesburg on the 28th of April, this remarkable growth and success is alluring to many.
