LAST CALL: Meropa running shoe drive is moving
Ninety pairs of shoes donated for community, so far

Meropa Casino’s running shoe drive in collaboration with Mahube Social Partners is helping athletes rack up their kilometres, with 90 pairs of shoes donated since the public call to action in January.
Modimolle Mall was added to the list of locations with drop boxes, which includes Meropa’s Reward Centre, Polokwane Athletics Club and Mercurius Motors Polokwane.
The initiative, which calls for the donation of new and pre-loved running shoes in good condition, is aimed at promoting the benefits of an active lifestyle to the local community who cannot afford running shoes. Mahube Social Partners, a Non-Profit Company focused on addressing social challenges, has identified Moletji Athletics Club, Fitness For All Athletics Team, Pula Madibogo, Makgefola, Megoring and Diopong primary schools, and Hwiti and Ramashobohle high schools, as beneficiaries.
Meropa General Manager Sammy Mokhele said the shoe drive aimed to collect and donate as many pairs as possible. “We encourage our visitors as well as our staff to bring their gently-loved, or even a brand-new pair of running shoes, to the donation boxes,” he said.
