Legendary Bafana Bafana player maestro John Lesiba ‘Shoes’ has passed away after a long battle with cancer at age 49.

The South African Football Association (Safa) has expressed shock and sadness at the passing of former Bafana Bafana midfield maestro John Lesiba “Shoes”

Moshoeu enjoyed a glittering career in the game of football, starring in both South Africa and Europe.

‘Shoes’ played for the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu, and Turkish side Fenerbahçe, and was in the Bafana Bafana side which won the 1996 African Cup of Nations. Moshoeu played in 73 matches for the national team between 1993 and 2004.

He will always be remembered as one of the driving forces that helped Bafana Bafana win the Africa Cup of Nations title in 1996 on home soil.
