LEGKAART BRINGS A FRESH AND UNIQUE SOUND!
Legkaart, a duo consisting of Anrich Gericke and Werner van der Merwe, made big waves in the music industry with the release of their debut single – Wentelbaan – in 2020. Not only was the song selected as Jacaranda FM’s Hot Hit of the Week and RSG’s Uitskieter van die Week, but also topped the Kraakvars Top 40 charts. This, as well as the fact that the song featured on various local radio stations, have laid a solid foundation for their second single to build on.
EK IS DAAR was written by lead singer, Anrich Gericke, and produced by Die Heuwel Fantasties’ Fred den Hartog. “It is an Afrikaans pop rock song that follows the story of two lovers who are separated when one is forced to go and live overseas and how strong their bond is despite their circumstances,” the Capetonian shares about the meaning behind their latest single. “It was inspired by a combination of special memories from the past and is a very nostalgic release.”
The duo hopes that the song will appeal to listeners and make them look forward to more. “The song combines striking melodies and unique lyrics that are pleasing to the ear,” they explain.

Legkaart comes from Durbanville in the Western Cape. Because they believe that each member, chord and lyric are pieces of a bigger puzzle, they agreed that Legkaart would be the perfect name when starting out in 2020.
They are both physiotherapy and medical students and met when they were members of their dorm’s serenade group. Hippokrates. They decided to join forces after things with their previous bands did not work out as planned.
Their style can be described as “pop rock music with an acoustic heart, coloured by electronic sounds and colourful lyrics”.
Anrich entered Die Kontrak in 2022 as Demi Lee’s choice and the group also had the privilege of being her opening act. More shows and exciting opportunities are in the pipeline, but they do not want to divulge too much about it at this stage.
Anrich is the thirty-year-old lead singer, lyricist and rhythm guitarist. He has always loved music, but only started singing and playing guitar at the age of nineteen. In addition to completing his studies, he is also busy completing his private aeroplane license. He enjoys a wide variety of music and is inspired by artists like John Mayer, One Republic, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Bryan Adams, Linkin Park and Die Heuwels Fantasties. He believes that opportunities should be created, and that success can only be achieved through hard work.
Werner is the group’s lead guitarist and was born and raised in Bloemfontein. He has always been passionate about music and started playing guitar and piano in primary school. Rock, alternative rock and blues are his favourite genres, and he says that musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Jack Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Mayer all had an influence on his own style. Aside from music and studying, he enjoys trying new things and believes that you should work hard and have enough luck on your side to make it in the local music industry.
EK IS DAAR has a fresh and unique sound and is a good indication of what can be expected of Legkaart’s next single and music video to be released in October this year. It also marks the start of a very promising chapter in this talented duo’s music career.
