LEN MULLER RELEASES A BRAND-NEW HEARTFELT SINGLE!
What started out as music for a Klein Kaap Boutique Hotel advertising campaign on kykNET, has grown into a beautiful new single that will appeal to listeners from all walks of life.
“The hotel approached me to write a short piece of music for their advertisement that plays out at the end of the episode of the popular series, ‘Hotel’,” says Len Muller about his latest single, HUIS TOE. “My record label heard potential in the concept and encouraged me to turn the idea into a full song.”
HUIS TOE was inspired by the idea that we all only have limited time on earth before “going home”. “I also thought of the parable of the prodigal son, and how much I had lost and found my way home again,” he adds.
This nostalgic Afrikaans acoustic track was produced by Gideon Botes and contains the Zulu phrase: “Buyel’ Ekhaya“, which means to ‘return home’. According to the singer, he has always wanted to write a song in another language, and he is excited about taking the first step in this direction.
“I think people will like it because the music makes you dream and the message behind the song is universal,” he says.
A beautiful music video of the song is also available now. It was filmed in False Bay by Nico Welgemoed and directed and produced by Len’s own wife, Chanél Muller.
The video was inspired by a scene from the film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and shows Len, who is on his way home on a longboard, surrounded by the beautiful rainbows, mountains and scenery of the area.
“I have never done this before and was looking for an excuse to spend a day riding down a mountain on a longboard. I haven’t felt so alive in a long time, and I am excited to share something new and fresh with listeners.”
HUIS TOE follows the release of Hemelruim, a 2021 duet with Esté Gross, that was very well received and can still be heard on the radio. Hartklop, from his latest album Oorgenoeg, was also a big hit with listeners.
Since launching his solo career nine years ago, there has been many highlights in Len’s career. He not only had the opportunity to collaborate with big names in the music industry, but also released three successful albums and established himself as a songwriter.
He is best-known for his hit, Vrede, which was used as the theme song of the kykNET sitcom, Mense Mense and was nominated for a Huisgenoot Tempo-toekenning for Song of the Year. He is also a member of Musiek Soos Grond with Joshua na die Reën, Kaleidoskoop, Leon Gropp, Lizandra Winter and Liani Reynolds, which was founded in 2019 and still perform together occasionally.
When the versatile Capetonian is not busy with his own music, he manages bookings for artists like Juan Boucher, Danie du Toit (Reënwolf) and Herman Kleinhans.
His plans for 2022 include a New Zealand tour and releasing a few more singles.
HUIS TOE is a breath of fresh air in the Afrikaans music industry and is one of those songs that will stay with you for a long time after hearing it for the first time.
