Johannesburg, 31 January 2022: Known for its standing as the country’s luxury capital, Sandton City has opened an exquisite array of new stores, many of which are making their debut in South Africa, in the iconic centre. Following a booming festive season, the centre continues to outperform the industry with a 98.3% occupancy, surpassing the  (MSCI Q3 2021) Super Regional benchmark of 93.2%.

Shoppers now have access to even more of the world’s top brands as the centre has added flagship stores and new concept stores to its variety. Despite what was a turbulent year, Sandton City exceeded 2020 foot traffic volumes with 1.7 million visitors to the centre in December 2021, delivering a 22.3% increase on the previous year. Additionally, the centre has seen positive growth in annual turnover with an increase of 31.3% 2021 vs 2020 (4.3% growth 2021 vs 2019). Furthermore the centre’s 2021  December trade saw a positive growth of 12.4% in comparison to 2020 (10.8% growth 2021 vs 2019).

In a first for Johannesburg, Chanel has opened a flagship fragrance and beauty boutique, which also hosts the brands deluxe sunglass collection. The newly opened Dior Emporium takes the luxury brand’s presence in the centre further, now giving Sandton shoppers access to a broader assortment of its sought-after skincare, fragrance and make up ranges. 

The trendsetting Armani Exchange boutique was created by Giorgio Armani for street fashion lovers and those living a metropolitan life. The centre has also welcomed ARC, South Africa’s first ever luxury beauty destination hosting an unparalleled selection of exclusive cosmetic brands.

Sandton City also now boasts the first of its kind globally Mercedes-Benz experience with over 1000 square metres of showroom space, providing a truly unique dealership experience where people can explore all of the latest vehicles on display, book a test drive, interact with the staff for any product related queries, explore unique brand merchandise and, for the first time ever in South Africa, discover the all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class. 

Additionally, Adidas has opened its first Halo store concept in the country, which at 1 600 square metres, is also the largest store the brand has launched on the African continent.

A new addition to the centre’s Diamond Walk, luxury fashion house Alexander McQueen will soon be making its premiere in the country with the unveiling of a much-anticipated new boutique that will be opening in the first quarter of 2022.

Sandton City also welcomes new multiple other new retailers with several stores in the centre also having recently undergone revamps.
