Mabel previews her much-anticipated second album ‘About Last Night…’ with ‘Let Love Go’ today. Featuring US rapper Lil Tecca, ‘Let Love Go’ received its first play from Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, with a live VEVO session for the track additionally dropping alongside. In a full-circle moment, Mabel also features on the new single from A1 and J1, ‘Deal Or No Deal’, which reworks her breakthrough hit ‘Finders Keepers’ and was released this week.

Further teasing the project today, ‘Let Love Go’ is a euphoric and affecting highlight of ‘About Last Night…’. Written by Mabel and Lil Tecca alongside SG Lewis, Raye and MNEK, it’s an affirmation that shrugs off heartache and being drawn to relationships that “don’t give you what you deserve”. Revelations on the dancefloor are a central theme across Mabel’s upcoming second album, the darker side of which is evident on latest single ‘Overthinking’: an escapist but unflinchingly honest snapshot of when nightlife meets social anxiety, and how to find your way back to yourself.

Conceived by Mabel as the world went into lockdown – and completed as life IRL picks up pace – ‘About Last Night…’ is a vivid and hyperreal journey from the anticipated beginnings to the messy end of the best night out that never was. Each track transports the minutiae – getting ready (‘Let Them Know’); the ghosts of an ex (‘Good Luck’); crying in the bathroom; stumbling home – and transforms the normality into the magical. Throughout, the Brit Award winner once again switches up her effortless way with modern pop: influences span the liberated euphoria of noughties club-culture (dance-pop, house, translatlantic R&B) with deeper themes of expression and inclusion as gained from obsessively re-watching ‘Paris Is Burning’, ‘Pose’ and ‘Drag Race’ during lockdown. Here is a young woman processing her own, life-changing formative years growing up in the public eye, and taking charge of her narrative through this fantastical space. The Mabel of 2022 is a young woman living in full and self-actualised power, intent on making music that will empower anyone who needs it.

With festivals already under her belt this summer at the likes of Primavera, Strawberries & Creem and Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Mabel will launch ‘About Last Night…’ alongside an intimate show at London’s Sommerset House on July 17th.

Pre-order ‘About Last Night…’ now, and watch out for more from Mabel coming soon.
