The 27th annual South African Music Awards took place virtually on Saturday, 31 July 2021. The fan voted category, Record Of The Year, is always an eagerly awaited moment at the ceremony and this year Matthew Mole took home the win for his single, ‘Keep It Together’.
“I can’t even explain how grateful I am to take home Record Of The Year! It was completely unexpected; I was just honoured to be named among so many SA bangers. The fact that this category was based purely on votes just makes me feel so encouraged and supported by so many amazing people. Mind = blown!”

“Keep It Together” is the third single from Matthew Mole’s third album “Ghost”. Last year Matthew Mole won Best Pop Album at SAMA26 for ‘Ghost’. The single stresses facing up to a difficult season in your life and, rather than giving up, realising the value in what you can take away from it by pushing through. While squarely falling into the pop genre, the artist says he “pictures some tropical island when hearing the song”.
The inspiration behind ‘Keep It Together’, says Matthew, is the fact that every person faces difficulties in life. “We all go through things in life. Often, these things are painful and difficult to deal with. But by making it through them, we end up growing so much,” he explains. “We just need to remember to hold on and not give up.”
