Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula has denied that a letter written by 2010 World Cup boss Danny Jordaan is proof that South Africa was involved in bribing FIFA executives.

According to Mail and Guardian, report claimed that South Africa used the $10-million Jordaan says would be paid for football development donation as a cover to bribe FIFA officials in exchange for securing the 2010 World Cup.

In a statement released by the sports ministry on Friday, he explained the existence of Jordaan’s letter and questions raised about the $10-million payment to CONCACAF.

“This letter affirms what was said in that press conference and proves that the Diaspora programme was pursued to support government policy and directives around the delivery of the World Cup legacy as Minister Mbalula asserted.

“We reject the Mail&Guardian article that frames an honest correspondence between SAFA and FIFA and proof of bribery with contempt that it deserves; it is nothing else but regurgitation and sensation.”
