It’s been 25 years of excellent product design and engineering since the first ECOSYS laser colour printer was launched in 1992. The KYOCERA Document Solutions ECOSYS printing technology opened a new chapter in the area of environmental sustainability, and to date, continues to be a shining example to many of their peers in the industry.
The first ECOSYS printer that was unveiled by KYOCERA was the ECOSYS FS-1500, a model that would become the foundation upon which many successful new products has been built and launched. The KYOCERA ECOSYS FS-1500 featured a pioneering new toner system that enabled customers to save about 85% on consumable waste over the lifetime of the printer.

This feat by KYOCERA Document Solutions was unheard of in the industry when design trends at the time, allowed for 60 replacement toner cartridge components to be disposed off when they expired, resulting in unnecessary wastage during the lifetime of the product. Unlike other printer manufacturers, some of which still continues with this poor product design practice, KYOCERA continues to take a leading role in helping to make the environment better.
KYOCERA has proven their commitment to environmental sustainability consistently over the last 25 years by investing in, and developing, a series of ECOSYS printers that only consist of a maximum of 5 small basic toner components. These components can be exchanged independently of other components, resulting in less replacement of mechanical parts. The positive effect thereof, is a more sustainable and significantly low cost solution for their customers.
In a press statement by Takahiro Sato, President of KYOCERA Document Solutions Europe B.V, he reiterated the company’s environmental consciousness through the development of its award-winning eco-friendly printers and had this to say:
“A quarter of a century ago, terms such as sustainability and environmental impact had yet to enter the corporate lexicon, yet now they dominate many boardroom discussions.”
“Environmental sustainability has been an underlying principle of the KYOCERA Group’s philosophy since it’s foundation in 1959, and the development of the ECOSYS range anticipated a new era of ecological consciousness. KYOCERA’s ECOSYS products set the standard for eco-friendly printing when they were first launched and, 25 years later, we are still leading the way.”
