The Soil has officially announced their new member addition, Theo Matshoba, the 20-year-old from Dobsonville, Soweto.
The Soil has been searching for a new female vocalist across South Africa after Buhle Mda announced her exit from the group in January 2016. Buhle decided to take a break from The Soil to heed her ancestral calling.
The group has been searching for a replacement with their #ExperienceTheSoil campaign, and they have finally found her!
Buhle will be replaced by Theo for all upcoming events involving the band.
After a full day of various performances and interaction with the band, 20-year-old Theo Matshoba from Dobsonville, Soweto got the ultimate prize.
“More than anything, I am shocked because the ladies there were really talented. Buhle’s shoes are really huge to fill but I am not trying to be her, I just want to make her and the group proud”, said Theo Matshoba.
The band also spoke well of Theo’s talents and feel they’ve made the correct choice in choosing Theo to fill Buhle’s shoes.
“Theo has an exceptional voice and we are extremely elated by the fact that she’ll now be part of a unit whose sole mandate is to continue sharing beautiful music with people, in all these amazing stages” said The Soil.
According to Native Rhythms, Theo will start rehearsing with the band as of this week and her first performance will be on 5th March 2016. Buhle will be present at most of the gigs to guide her and giver her some performance coaching.
