It’s fashion’s biggest night — the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute — better known as simply, the Met Gala. And it might be the most talked about themed to date.
The event and the subsequent costume exhibition at the museum is “China: Through the Looking Glass,” celebrating all things Chinese art, design and dresses that interpret the country’s culture.
But the theme has the potential of becoming overwhelmingly cringeworthy. Some fear attendees could become guilty of blatant cultural misappropriation with their fashion choices.
Whatever the case, the event will draw the biggest of celebrities in both entertainment and fashion in one of the most exclusive — and expensive — fetes, ever.
Look out for the $25,000 per ticket soiree’s host, Silas Chou, and his co-chairs: Jennifer Lawrence, Wendi Murdoch, Gong Li, Marissa Mayer and Anna Wintour, who will be sure to dazzle.
Other celebs confirmed: Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Julianne Moore, Katy Perry, among many others. The full list was leaked to Fashionista here.
But don’t expect any photos from inside the gala. The Met is completely controlled this year, with social media and reporters capping at 225 persons, and all cameras banned throughout the night.
