In the intimate portrait shared with the world, she added a long and meaningful caption.

It read: “There is nothing more powerful and beautiful than motherhood. The last thing I want to do is be controversial, so please take this for what it is, let us #normalizebreastfeeding there is nothing worse than a mother that is judged for feeding her hungry child in public. #weareonlyhuman

“I’m so proud of this cover and for what it’s stands for. I obviously don’t look like this while I am breastfeeding but this stands for all women out there, whether you breastfeed or not, we gave birth, we are women, we are mothers. Thank you to ELLE for being so bold and making such an encouraging, positive and healthy statement. #womenunite”

The covershot won’t be sold on news stands although a differet version of her wearing a black Prada dress will.

In the publication which goes on sale on Monday Trunfio said that she wanted to share the ‘special moment’.

She said: “When I saw the [subscriber] cover of me breastfeeding, which was unplanned and just natural, I teared up and thought, ‘Wow this is such a special moment where my worlds have collided.”

The 29-year-old has followed in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Jerry Hall by being photographed breastfeeding her baby for the cover of a magazine.

The image, which editor-in-chief Justine Cullen said is a ‘celebration of motherhood and style, some people think it is offensive while others think it’s magnificent because it shows the bond between mother and child.
