The dynamic songwriter behind MOU, Christof Prins, and the lead singer of Victor Bravo, Weco van Basten, have combined their creative talents for the brand-new, inspiring single, INTERTWINED.
This song is a deeply personal narrative of love and connection, promising to touch hearts across the world.
Prins wrote the song after hearing a talk by Gordon Peterson about the concept of “intertwined”.
This imagery of married lives being woven together like a rope reminded him of his relationship with his wife and inspired him to put pen to paper.
“My wife and I are inseparable parts of each other, and this concept deeply moved me,” he says.
According to the writer, the track – a contemporary blend of sounds and lyrics – tells the story of him and his wife, Nanine, who have been best friends and partners for 21 years.
“We met unexpectedly 24 years ago, and over the years, friendship grew into love. We became one, and then our two became three with the birth of our son, Ethan. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that we are intertwined,” he explains.
As Nanine’s birthday falls on October 22, he aimed to complete the song, which took two years to refine and finish, during her birthday month.
The production was handled by Renier Henning of Renier Henning Music, with Vinnie Henrico on drums and Jannes Blomerus on bass guitar.
Van Basten who performs under the stage name Victor Bravo acted as co-writer and is also responsible for the vocals and basic structure of the final product.
“I immediately connected with the song’s message, and as a married man with a special wife, I could sing this special song with passion,” he says. “This is the first time I’m recording a song I didn’t write myself, but the message is so universal that I could instantly relate to it.”
“I’ve always enjoyed working with other musicians, and it’s a great compliment that Christof trusted me to bring this song to life,” Weco adds.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE MUSIC
MOU is the brainchild of successful businessman and songwriter Christof Prins, who prefers to avoid the spotlight and work behind the scenes.
His music process centres around the idea of a “Memorandum Of Understanding” (hence MOU), where he collaborates with artists and producers to realize his musical vision.
MOU has already released three successful singles, all well-received. Still Dreaming (which has garnered over 30 000 streams online) and My Camino were released in 2021, with the latter being named the best overall single at the 2023 Afri-Indie Music Awards. This year, the instrumental track Childhood Dream was also nominated for an award.
Victor Bravo entered the music industry as a duo in 2018. Since then, they have achieved numerous milestones, including several awards, two Cape Town tours, and performances on major music stages like Aardklop 2019.
Lê my neer, their fifth radio release from their repertoire of original music, was released early in 2024 and was awarded best duo single at this year’s Afri-Indie Music Awards.
Solank die liefde bly, released in 2022, received a Melomaan Award for Best Duo Single, while Suiderkruis (2022), Skemer (2019), and Breakway Line (2018) each won an Afri-Indie Award (best contemporary single, best duo single, and best overall single, respectively) and topped charts across the country for several weeks.
When not on stage or writing songs for himself and other artists, Weco builds and explores data systems at work. He has been involved with music from a young age, was a member of the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir as a child and studied drama and creative writing in America after school.
With the release of INTERTWINED, these two talented musicians hope to share a piece of their hearts and art with the world, and who knows – this may just be the beginning of many future collaborations.
The song is now available on all digital streaming platforms.
