MULLER BRANDT FIGHTS FOR WHAT HE BELIEVES IN WITH DEBUT SINGLE

The future of Afrikaans is currently a hot topic of discussion in the media and amongst those who are willing to fight for the preservation of their language and culture.

This was also the inspiration behind singer-songwriter, Muller Brandt‘s, debut Afrikaans single, MOEDERTAAL.

Afrikaans is constantly under attack and we cannot sit back and watch while our language is being destroyed. We have to stand up and fight for our mother tongue,” the singer explains. “I love Afrikaans and cannot imagine a future where my children and grandchildren don’t know what it is. I use my voice and talent to contribute towards this cause.”

According to Muller, who co-wrote the track with Douvoordag’s Jattie de Beer, it can be describe as a patriotic song that speaks to the heart. “It is a reminder of how important this cause is and will appeal to a wide audience.”

Jattie de Beer also directed the music video that was filmed in Hartebeespoortdam by AGP Media. “I wanted to convey the message by having a conversation with the camera. I felt that keeping it simple was the best way to keep the focus on the lyrics,” he shares.

MOEDERTAAL is the first release from his debut album, Brand die Skepe, which is scheduled for release in September 2022.

Muller Brandt was born and raised in Pretoria and has been working in the music industry for more than a decade. His dad’s love of country music ignited his own passion for singing and he has never given up on his dream to be a fulltime musician.

The thirty-year-old artist admits that Theuns Jordaan has had the biggest influence on his own style, but that he also has great admiration for stars like Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Boney M, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Neil Diamond and Luke Combs.

“A combination of talent and character are the ingredients of a long and healthy career,” he says. “It took me a long time to learn not to overthink what I write. Although most of what I create is on the deeper side, I believe that music is so powerful that even the simplest song can have an impact. If something works, it works. If I sing it and it feels right, I will continue singing it.”

Over the years, the music industry has taught this versatile muso to believe in himself, not to compare his work to those of others and to remember what’s really important – a sentiment that is emphasised by MOEDERTAAL.

The song is now available on all digital platforms. Download it here: https://MullerBrandt.lnk.to/Moedertaal
