Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland will convene the 12th Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting (WAMM) on 19 to 20 September 2019 in Nairobi, hosted by the Government of Kenya.
The meeting will bring together ministers for gender and women’s affairs to review and appraise the progress towards achieving the Commonwealth’s four priorities on gender equality, sustainable development goal five, and other related national and regional commitments. It will be an opportunity to transform global commitments, words and aspirations expressed by leaders into concrete action towards accelerating gender equality for sustainable development.
WAMM is returning to Nairobi where the first meeting was held in 1985. The meeting will focus on the Commonwealth’s four priorities for gender equality and women’s empowerment: women in leadership; women’s economic empowerment; ending violence against women and girls; and gender and climate change.
