On Saturday, November 5th 2022, a large national demonstration for peace of more than 100.000 people was held in Rome, to demand a ceasefire in Ukraine, a ban on nuclear weapons and express solidarity with the Ukrainian people and all the victims of wars.
The procession “IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE, NEGOTIATE FOR PEACE!” originated from Piazza della Repubblica and arrived in Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano, where a stage hosted the promoters, among them CGIL National Secretary Maurizio Landini, and witnesses to the Ukrainian conflict.
The event was organized by the Italian Peace and Disarmament Network and by Europe for Peace, an international coalition of over 600 organizations, associations, networks, trade unions and communities.
CGIL National Secretary Maurizio Landini declared: “We call for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and the immediate opening of a real negotiation. Diplomacy, with the full involvement of the United Nations, must lead to a rapid political settlement of the conflict. CGIL repudiates war and will continue to strongly call for an International Peace Conference. The war cannot be stopped with war, for this reason we invite everyone and everyone to participate in tomorrow’s demonstration in Rome “.
