One Direction and Five Seconds of Summer will contest for the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) Worldwide Act award.
The Little Things hitmakers will represent Europe North for the global accolade, while the She Looks So Perfect singers – who supported the British band on their 2013 Take Me Home tour – will contest for Australia and New Zealand.
The two acts are among a shortlist of 10 to be up for the prize, following seven weeks of voting across three stages via mtvema.com which saw the number of artists in consideration for the accolade narrowed down from 286.
Also in the running for the award are North America’s Fifth Harmony, Latin America’s Dulce Maria, Japan and Korea’s B.A.P. and Bibi Zhou, who represents South East Asia, mainland China and Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
They are joined by regional European representatives Revolverheld, Dawid Kwiatkowski and Alessandra Amoroso.
Fans can vote now for their favourite act on the MTV EMA website and the winner will be announced at the awards ceremony, which is presented by Nicki Minak and takes place on 9 November at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland.
Voting will close at 11:59 CET on Saturday, 8 November.
