In this position, de Waal will continue to develop and grow the Nutanix technical competencies across the region
Johannesburg, South Africa—September, 07 2021– Nutanix (NASDAQ: NTNX), a leader in hybrid multicloud computing, today announced the appointment of Phillip de Waal as Systems Engineer Manager for the Sub-Saharan region, effective August 1, 2021. A formative member of the local offices, de Waal, will be responsible for advancing the Nutanix technical portfolio, growing its engineering resources and evangelising its technologies across the continent.
De Waal joined Nutanix as a consultant in 2014 and then permanently in 2016, over the past seven years, has worked closely with customers and partners, first helping them design better hyperconvergence solutions and more recently defining their approach to their private and multi-cloud environments. In his new capacity, he will lead the technical direction of the business and will report directly to James Sturrock, Director Of Systems Engineering – WEURSSA, while working closely with Rowen Grierson, Sales Director – Sub-Saharan Africa.
“Phillip has been with Nutanix in the region since the very beginning and has fantastic relationships with our partners and customers,” said Grierson. “His knowledge of our solutions, his passion for the technology and his understanding of the complex issues facing local business makes him the perfect person for this role. I am looking forward to working with Philip as we continue to blaze a new path for those customers looking to reinvent and redefine their infrastructure journey as they move more workloads into the cloud.”
With over 24 years of experience in IT, de Waal joined Nutanix from Bitrate, where he worked in the capacity of services manager. He also served a tenure at AxizWorkgroup, MICROmega Technologies, Stortech and First Technology Group. He boasts an exceptional understanding of the inner workings of the IT channel and in-depth knowledge of customer support relationships. Outside of his extensive technical training and Nutanix certifications, de Waal was initially certified by the Aerospace Industry Education and Training Board as an Aircraft Avionician.
“I have had an incredible time at Nutanix; it has been exceptionally rewarding to work with a company that has defined the software-defined future of infrastructure through hyperconvergence and cloud technologies,” said de Waal. “In this new chapter, our team is looking to elevate the technology pitch to clients and partners, helping them better define where the cloud fits into their business. Part of this is ensuring that they select the right clouds for the right areas of their business. And ensuring that their workloads and applications are running in the right place at the right time. All at the right price, of course.”
