Police and Nigerians in standoff at Arwyp following suspect’s death
A huge contigent of Nigerian citizens have gathered outside Arwyp Medical Centre following the death of a fellow citizen in police custody.
According to reports the Nigerian was arrested for possession for Chrystal Meth. It is believed he swallowed the drugs and died in a police vehicle as a result of it.
However, the Nigerian community is up in arms, saying he was killed by the police who suffocated him by putting a plastic bag over his head.
The deceased’s family has arrived on the scene. The 38-year-old suspect’s body is still in a police vehicle parked at the hospital’s entrance on Pine Avenue.
The flying squad and metro police are monitoring the situation, as well as a helicopter.
