Police have confirmed that three suspects have been arrested in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, for the murder of Mozambican national, Emmanuel Sithole and are expected to appear in court on Tuesday
35-year-old Sithole was stabbed in Alexandra on Saturday morning, by a gang of men were photographed stabbing and beating Sithole, who later died from his injuries
According to news24, police were still investigating whether his death was related to xenophobia, saying it seemed to have been related to an argument between a street vendor and a customer. Witnesses allege that the victim was a street vendor and selling cigarettes.
“Suspects approached him and took his goods without paying and thereafter an argument ensued. He was then confronted by one of the suspects who was wielding a knife.”
Sithole was stabbed and taken to a local clinic where he later succumbed to his wounds.
Sithole was taken to the nearby Alexandra Day Clinic‚ where nurses did what they could‚ but as there was no doctor – he was apparently absent from the facility as he feared being attacked – he was eventually taken to the Edenvale Hospital.
Shortly after 9am‚ Sithole was pronounced dead.
The arrests overnight were‚ reportedly‚ made with the help of the community.
