President Jacob Zuma’s daughter makes a quiet exit from plush government job
President Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Thuthukile Zuma who received widespread criticism for being the youngest head of a ministerial department,has quietly resigned from her post as chief of staff at the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services.
The young Zuma, whose appointment sparked an outcry from citizens and opposition parties, resigned from her position in December.
According to report,Thuthukile notified the department of her intentions to leave in August, and it was accepted by minister Siyabonga Cwele. She left at the end of December following a handing over period.
She has been replaced by Frans Mthombeni.
Zuma is reportedly the youngest of the president’s four daughters with his former wife Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the current African Union Commission chairperson.
Thuthukile Zuma made headlines in 2014 when she reportedly landed herself the senior government job at the age of 25. The appointment was widely criticised, according to The Mail & Guardian, Zuma earned almost R1m a year, stating that the position was never advertised.
