Thousands of well-wishers burst into an impromptu rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ as the Queen arrived in Windsor to mark her 90th with her subjects.

Devoted supporters draped in Union flags and clutching giant balloons sung ‘Happy Birthday dear Queenie’ as the Coldstream Guards’ band trumpeted out the celebratory tune.

Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen spent time meeting dozens of delighted royalists, many of whom had been waiting for hours, before continuing her tour of the town on the open-back top of a custom-built Range Rover.

The milestone will be marked with a number of events across the county, culminating in a private black tie dinner hosted by Prince Charles for close friends and family.

Prime Minister David Cameron today led the tributes to the ‘rock of our nation’ who he said ‘has lived through some extraordinary times’.
