Rebel Dance Academy, take home the fourth weekly prize of R5000 in News24 and Adcock Ingram OTC Dance of Brave challenge!

The week four winners are the members of the Rebel Dance Academy, a dance group aimed at exposing children from the Cape Flats to healthy and positive hobbies amid severe gangsterism and drug use in the area. The troop of 30 dancers aged between 8-18 years old walk 30 minutes to practice in an open field to rehearse each week. Motivated by the lyrics of Ndlovu Youth Choir’s, “We Will Rise” song, the dancers were inspired to create their take on the Dance of Brave Challenge.

The dance crew invited their parents to take part in the dance challenge to foster a sense of unity and showcase their talents. The parents have now adopted the dance of brave as a form of exercise too. Founder, Wesley Bosch shares the dance teams reaction to the win, “We are extremely happy and over the moon. This money will help cover some of the expenses such as transport and food. Most importantly this win shows the dancers that they can do anything and that hard work pays off.”

The Rebel Dance Academy launched three years ago as a positive space for youth to avoid gangsterism and drug abuse. The academy was founded by 28 year old, Wesley Bosch who runs free dance classes for the kids of Bonteheuwel. The troop often raise funds to enter competitions as a way to keep the dancers motivated. The prize money will be used to provide dancers with food and for upcoming competitions.

As the winners of the R5000 weekly prize, the dance crew encourages all South Africans to kick off their dancing shoes and stand a chance to win. “Do it and have fun.Listen to the words and message of song cause that’s where the heart of dance lies.”

This season of Sponsors of Brave is calling on all South African residents to Be Brave, Mzansi and to do the Dance of Brave. To celebrate and commemorate just how far we have come as a country, the Be Brave Mzansi campaign is asking everyone to get up and dance, as we rise together to beat the virus. Those who submit a video to enter stand a chance to win a weekly cash prize to the tune of R5,000. Three video entries will be selected as overall winners: one by a nationwide public vote who will win R20,000 and two chosen by the panel of judges and The Ndlovu Youth Choir who will win R10,000 each – one for the best individual or family and one for the best school or organisation.

Nicole Austin, Adcock Ingram OTC Sponsors of Brave ambassador encourages everyone to get involved, “Our country has weathered so many storms, and we continue to rise, mostly because of our spirit of gratitude. We express this in many ways, but there is no more impactful way to show our courageous South African spirit than through song and dance. It unites us, it fuels us, and it is central to this brand new season of Sponsors of Brave – Be Brave, Mzansi. So get up, be brave, and move, Mzansi!”
