Johannesburg, South Africa – Acclaimed TV and film actress, Dr. Mamphuti Khasu, is proud to announce the upcoming premiere of Gontse!, a powerful and thought-provoking play addressing the critical issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Domestic Violence (DV). This poignant production promises to spark essential conversations, challenge societal norms, and inspire meaningful change.
Conceptualised and directed by renowned Disemelo Makhanda, in collaboration with Jazz legend Tlale Makhene and choreographed by internationally acclaimed dancer Thandiwe Mqokeli, Gontse! is a heart-wrenching story and contemporary dance project that journeys through the harrowing experiences of women who survived Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence. This powerful production aims to create awareness about GBV and DV, empower women to fight against these social ills and encourage survivors to reclaim their lives. This gripping play sheds light on the devastating consequences of GBV, while also offering a message of hope, resilience, and empowerment.

The premiere of Gontse! will take place on the 24th of January 2025 at the Soweto Theatre. This event promises to be a poignant and unforgettable experience, featuring a talented cast, impressive dance and a powerful narrative that will leave audiences moved and inspired. Through the dancers’ movements and expressions, the audience will witness the struggles, resilience, and triumphs of women who have overcome GBV and DV. Gontse! will bring these critical narratives to life through a 90-minute contemporary dance performance that will immerse audiences in the survivors’ journeys, followed by a panel discussion.
