Chef Wandile Mabaso and Chef Johannes Richter to collaborate in The City of Gold

Two of South Africa’s award-winning chefs are joining forces for a two-day collaboration in Johannesburg. Chef Johannes Richter of the critically acclaimed The LivingRoom at Summerhill Guest Estate in Cowies Hill, Durban will be heading to Johannesburg to cook alongside Chef Wandile Mabaso at his lauded Bryanston restaurant, Les Creatifs.

The collaboration will celebrate the pair’s shared passion for endemic and indigenous ingredients, age-old African cooking techniques, and their love for South African culture and heritage.

Guests can expect a remarkable joining of forces as Mabaso’s celebrated take on African fine-dining will meet Richter’s hyper-local, sustainability-centered cooking for what is sure to be a meal to remember.

“We’re super excited to be hosting Chef Johannes in our kitchen, I think there’s definitely a commonality to our cooking, especially when it comes to creativity, humility and shared respect for nature and cultural heritage,” says Mabaso of the collaboration.

The collaboration will take place over two dinner services on the 19th and 20th July 2024. Hosted at Les Creatifs, the two chefs will present a four-hands dinner showcasing their celebrated culinary capabilities, delivered across seven exceptional dishes.

The chefs will each serve up three of their own dishes and will also collaborate on a lamb main course, utilising the animal from nose-to-tail, as a testament to their creativity and shared sustainable ethos. The wines for the series will be paired by The LivingRoom sommelier Johanna Richter.

For Chef Johannes this marks his first-time cooking in Johannesburg. “I’m very much looking forward to cooking alongside Chef Wandile,” comments Richter, “I’m equally excited to be bringing a small taste of what we do here in Durban up to the City of Gold.”

The collaboration will run for lunch and dinner on Friday the 19th of July and for dinner on Saturday the 20th of July. The dinner will be priced at R2500 per person for the seven-course menu with wine pairing.
