Fidelity ADT is reporting a concerning rise in business and warehouse theft and robbery in the East Rand, specifically in Meadowdale, Isando and Jet Park areas.
Charnel Hattingh, Group Head of Marketing and Communications at Fidelity ADT says business robberies are a problem at the moment. Last week there were fourteen crime incidents reported in this area, of those, six were armed robberies at commercial properties.
She says syndicates of approximately 10 to 15 heavily armed suspects take control of entire warehouses for a couple of hours, usually on a Monday or Tuesday night and getaway with thousands of Rands of merchandise. ‘These are highly organised syndicates. They take over a site, hold up the guards, put on the security uniform and proceed to take everything over a number of hours. Business owners must tighten access control protocols and consider off site monitoring to prevent these syndicates from continuing,” she says.
“We recommend that business owners consult their security provides to do a full risk assessment to ensure the premises and staff are fully protected against this type of crime,” concludes Hattingh.
