Adelani Ogunrinade (jnr.) has been the face of an array of prominent TV stations in Africa. An infectious sense of humor and an amiable onscreen persona has made the Sports and entertainment writer a well-loved TV personality. The British born Nigerian media practitioner has covered prestigious football festivals like the 2018 World Cup in Russia as well as several African Nations Cup tournaments

In the words of Michael Kors, “Clothes are like a good meal, a good movie, and great pieces of music”

The validity in this statement was evident at the exclusive viewing of Rubicon’s 2020 collection at the groovy Arbour Café, Johannesburg last night.

The modern vintage dress code set the tone and the mood of the elegant event. Actress and gospel singing sensation, Maduvha Madima dazzled with her smooth yet powerful voice as guests guzzled free-flowing cocktails, sparkling wine and cold champagne. Trays of delicious finger food circulated around the cosy venue as A-list stars observed the exquisite style on display.

With influential personalities like business mogul Basetsana Kumalo, TV presenter and actress Pearl Thusi and local TV and radio personality Luthando “Lootlove” Shosha endorsing the fast growing fashion brand, it was essential for the evening’s host Lerato Shabala to pass the microphone to the Rubicon Clothing founder, Hangwani Nengovhela who shared the profoundly sentimental story behind her new collection

“This particular collection is inspired by Mother. She inspired me to start making clothes at the age of 7 and really influenced my design process. Some of the prints that you see tonight are motivated by outfits she use to wear back in the 80s. I will be selling most of these prints in four different colour tones and I hope to see many more people wearing them out there,”   Hangwani Nengovhela explained.

She also credited her beautiful connection with nature and its calming ambience as the muse behind her latest designs.

“I grew up in Venda. I was always surrounded by beautiful nature. I love sitting by beautiful landscapes and vegetation’s. I enjoy immersing myself in what the universe has to offer. My design process is deeply spiritual. I am a very spiritual person and I am glad I get to include this in my timeless designs”

Despite the impact of Covid-19 on the fashion industry, which has seen numerous global store closures, drops in stock prices, cancelled fashion shows and postponed events, the Rubicon brand looks to be a brand that is here to stay for a very long time.
