Born in Sabie, Nitzsché now lives in Cape Town. The song is about something we all experience – the highs & lows of falling in love.
She explains how the song came to be: “I met a friend who motivated me so much around chasing my dream of becoming a recording and performing artist.
So I took the first step and made contact with Kyle Petersen (award-winning live & studio producer). In our very first session I decided to read to Kyle the first 5 lines of a song that I wrote after going through a breakup. We had an instant creative synergy & started working on the song immediately. Kyle was part of the song writing, he listened to my story and helped me bring it to life. He played me a Billie Eilish song as a reference with the words ‘Déjà vu’ in it. I told Kyle I wanted these words in the song… and it actually ended up becoming the title of my first single.”
Writing music has always been her passion: “From a young age I loved to sing, but I always had this habit of giving up when I didn’t feel good enough or when my own insecurities overwhelmed me. But as I grew older I managed to learn a lot more about myself and I still am learning every day. I also realised – after many warnings – that you can’t impress everybody. So I started singing again, recording covers and uploading them on Instagram and YouTube. It’s nice to hear what other people think. This journey has been amazing, and to see how many people wanted to be involved and part of my dream becoming a reality has been mind blowing. I am truly thankful for everybody being supportive!”
