SAMA-NOMINATED, AMY LILLEY RELEASES NEW SINGLE, “VIDEO GAMES” OFF UPCOMING EP
When Amy Lilley landed on the South African music scene, her debut achieved impressive success that would not be attainable to many but with an authentic talent like hers, it could not be ignored. Apart from the long list of radio chart hits and continued radio plays, her debut EP, She, earned her a SAMA nomination for Best Pop Album. Following in her successful accomplishments, Amy is now back with a new single entitled ‘Video Games’ off her upcoming EP, Petrichor.
‘Video Games’ can be described as “a love letter to my former self and making it something fun and playful”, Amy explains. With a deep personal connection to the song, Amy shares that back in high school, she found solace in video games. “I was so nervous to talk to anyone and always in my head. I found solace in video games a lot, I never put myself out there and it took me so long to come out of my shell. I still am trying to.”

An animated, video game-styled music video is the perfect pairing to this single that is all about learning to love who you are and the things you have to offer the world. “I came out early as a kid and it was always really hard for me to interact with people, I was terrified of asking a girl on a date! I wrote Video Games to make light of being so shy and in such a shameful place and turn it into something powerful and playful. I am a shy, video games nerd and I love who I am kind of thing.” Amy explains.
Following in the success of her previous EP, She, Amy is gearing up to release her new 9-track EP entitled, Petrichor – a title with a deeper meaning behind it than you may think. “Petrichor means the smell after the rain. In my first debut single, “Formidable” the main line was “I hope it’s raining on the other side”. I wrote that album in such a heartbroken place and this new album is about finally making it through to the other side. I felt like I could make music without a heavy weight on my chest. This album is a lot more personal and introspective for me.”
While there is no official release date for the new EP as of yet, there is no doubt that it would be a body of work worth waiting for. Like everything Amy shares, this EP will be dipped in authenticity, non-conformity and filled with singles that will share a piece of her soul with those who are begging for an escape that only music can provide.
